9 Interesting Video Games to Consider Playing This Year
2024 promises to be another great year for video game enthusiasts. With February just around the corner, the upcoming months are pretty exciting as we are going to experience new releases.
If you have not been keeping up with the gaming industry news and would like to find out what to expect this year, we have the list of 8 anticipated games in 2024.
1. Guild Wars 2
MMORPGs are not doing that hot these days, but Guild Wars 2 has an expansion, which should give the game even more attention.
Ends of Dragons is set to release this February, and players who are seeking refuge from World of Warcraft or New World should find a comfy home in Guild Wars 2.
Interesting characters, smooth combat, different game modes, a consumer-friendly payment method (particularly when you consider the genre of this game), and a friendly community are some of the title’s best features.
The game also excels in visuals and great graphics, so you will want to take screenshots of beautiful locations and characters and keep them. Make sure to read more about backing up media files so that you do not lose all those screenshots of GW2, or other games, for that matter.
So if you have an itch for a new MMORPG, do not hesitate and give Guild Wars 2 a try. You might be pleasantly surprised.
2. Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands
Borderland fans were not too happy with BL3. The backlash was received mostly due to the writing and story, but developers rectified some of the shortcomings with DLCs.
Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands should give the franchise fans a fresh feeling. Centered around one of the most below characters, this standalone title should bring everything that you expect from a Borderlands game—lots of loot, guns, and comedy.
One thing that will be different about Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is the emphasis on magic and character customization. And judging by the previews we already have, the game should be quite fun.
3. Elden Ring
One of the things that got Elden Ring players excited was the team behind it. And we are not talking about developers.
No, writing should be one of the standout features from one of the most anticipated titles of the year.
George R.R. Martin is associated with gritty fantasy, and that should be enough to get players on board. Combine him with Hidetaka Miyazaki (the person directing the game), and Elden Ring promises to sweep the game awards for 2024.
4. God of War Ragnarok
The story of immortal Kratos continues in the next God of War installment. Aptly named Ragnarok, the game takes place in a god and mythology world. Except it is no longer Greek gods. No, Kratos is on an adventure in Norse mythology, and Ragnarok promises to be a game that will have a conclusion (this is a prediction judging by the title), and who knows what will be next for Kratos and his son Atreus.
God of War has some of the best mechanics and combat you can find on PlayStation. The story-rich world also adds a lot to the game when combined with an amazing soundtrack. If there is one game that PS players are eagerly waiting for, it has to be God of War Ragnarok.
5. Dying Light 2
Dying Light 2 should follow in the footsteps of its first game. If that happens, survival and zombie fans are in for a treat, as the first title was considered as one of the best at its time.
Some would argue that the survival and zombie game niche is oversaturated, but it is important to note that most of these games are pretty mediocre. In other words, there is hardly any title that stands out.
Hopefully, things should change after players get to try Dying Light 2. The expectations for the game are high, and developers spent a lot of time on it.
6. Gotham Knights
It has been a while since we had a Batman game. Well, Gotham Knights promise to bring more of what we are already familiar with.
The difference with this game is that you are not going to be playing as Batman. Instead, you get to be in the shoes of his sidekicks—Nightwing, Robin, Batgirl, and Red Mask.
If you have been itching for a video game that excels in its combat, then do not miss out on the release of Gotham Knights.
7. Stray
Stray follows a story of a cat stuck in a dystopian cyberpunk world. The gameplay might not look like the most exciting thing in the world, but some players are bound to appreciate a more atmospheric approach.
It seems like the emphasis of this game will be on solving puzzles to advance. Stray is a title that has been in development for a long time, and it is another anticipated video game for 2024.
8. Horizon Forbidden West
Horizon Forbidden West is a sequel to a critically-acclaimed Horizon Zero Dawn. Guerilla Games have made a solid name for themselves, and fans of the series are eagerly waiting for the next installment of Aloy’s adventures in a dystopian cyberpunk-like world.
February 18 is the release date for this game, and it does not seem like there will be any delays. If you have not finished the first game, you still have time before the sequel drops.
9. Marvel’s Midnight Suns
Marvel might be crushing DC in the movie industry, but video games are a different story. Some of the recent Marvel attempts in the gaming niche have been pretty lackluster.
Having said that, Midnight Suns is a game that should be decent enough to make Marvel fans feel better about themselves. Tactical role-playing games are often considered a niche market, but when you put Marvel’s name on it, you expect it to attract attention.
From what little gameplay we have already seen in the trailers, this one seems pretty promising. It also helps that the game is published by 2K Games. As for the release date, March 2024 is the announced time, meaning that it is not too far away.
